Mais da metade dos atletas que integram o Time São Paulo Paralímpico vão disputar os Jogos Parapan-Americanos que começam nesta sexta-feira (17) em Santiago, no Chile, e se encerram em 26 de novembro. Dos 106 atletas que compõem o Time SP, 61 foram convocados para formar a delegação brasileira que conta, ao todo, com 324 atletas paralímpicos de 17 modalidades para representar o Brasil na capital chilena.
Criado e patrocinado pelo Governo de São Paulo, por meio da Secretaria de Estado dos Direitos da Pessoa com Deficiência (SEDPcD) em parceria com o Comitê Paralímpico Brasileiro (CPB), o Time SP conta com R$ 6 milhões de investimento da SEDPcD direcionados a 106 atletas de 14 modalidades, que têm representado o Estado e o País em campeonatos nacionais e mundiais ao longo do ano.
As modalidades que serão disputadas pelos atletas brasileiros no Parapan serão as de atletismo, badminton, basquete em cadeira de rodas, bocha, ciclismo, futebol PC (para pessoas com paralisia cerebral), futebol de cegos, goalball, judô, halterofilismo, natação, rúgbi em cadeira de rodas, taekwondo, tênis em cadeira de rodas, tênis de mesa, tiro com arco e tiro esportivo. Pelo Time SP, serão nove: atletismo, bocha, ciclismo, goalball, halterofilismo, judô, natação, taekwondo e tênis de mesa.
Nesta edição do Parapan, 33 países participam dos Jogos. Na última edição em Lima, em 2019, o Brasil conquistou a primeira posição do quadro de medalhas ao alcançar a marca inédita de 308 medalhas, sendo 124 de ouro, 99 de prata e 85 de bronze. Nas três edições anteriores a esta – Toronto, em 2015; Guadalajara, em 2011; e Rio, em 2007 -; os atletas brasileiros também conquistaram a primeira posição do quadro de medalhas. Portanto, o Brasil lidera o quadro de medalhas desde a edição do Rio, em 2007.
